Get Email Alerts as SMS
How many times have you missed that very important mail because you didn’t check your inbox for just one day. Unless you carry a smartphone or Blackberry, chances are that you are prone to such a disaster. Most of us don’t check our mail daily, maybe find time for it once in a week or so when we are free. This trick enables you to put aside those worries.
Here we discuss a neat trick to get alerts for your incoming mail directly to your mobile phone. The best thing is that it can deliver SMS notifications and that too totally free
It uses a service from IFTTT.com (If This Then That). Currently they support only Gmail inboxes only. Follow these steps to make your way to freedom

1. Go to http://ifttt.com and signup for a new account.
2. Click here http://ifttt.com/recipes/19316 to view the task that I’ve already configured to receive SMS alerts for Email.

3. “Activate” the Gmail channel by providing your account credentials. Enablethe SMS channel by keying in your mobile number. You would have to verify your number using an activation number.

5. Click on “Create Task”
Thats it! You are good to go
Once an email is received in your Gmail inbox from the above mentioned sender address, an SMS would be sent automatically to your mobile, carrying all necessary details of the mail like subject and a part of its content.
I have configured mine to get SMS alert for mails from our colleges placement department. This is one sample SMS I received using it
